What Is Air Tightness Testing?
Air tightness testing measures how much air leaks out of a building. Ensuring your property is energy-efficient and meets the current Building Regulations (part L) is essential. By identifying gaps, cracks, and other areas where air can escape, air tightness testing helps improve a property’s insulation and energy performance.
The test is typically conducted on new builds but can also be carried out on existing properties during renovations or improvements. The goal is to minimise uncontrolled air leakage, leading to heat loss, higher energy bills, and discomfort for occupants.
How Does It Work?
Air tightness testing involves creating a controlled pressure difference between the inside and outside of the building using a fan, typically mounted in an external doorway. The fan draws air out or pushes air into the building, and sensors measure how much air is escaping or entering through gaps in the building fabric.
Airtite uses state-of-the-art equipment to conduct the test, ensuring accurate and reliable results. During the test, we’ll inspect the building for common problem areas, such as around windows, doors, and utility service entries. Once identified, these gaps can be sealed, significantly improving the building’s energy efficiency and reducing long-term heating and cooling costs.
